World Taekwondo Grading Tests.
Students and Instructors celebrating their success after the September grading Test. Towards the end of each Semester there is an Exam to test students’ ability, knowledge and skills to progress to a higher rank; we call this a Grading Test. There are a number of Grading Tests held at various locations and a timetable is usually published prior to the test.
The Grading Tests are an important part of the whole World Taekwondo experience. It is through regular training and careful exposure to various challenges such as the Grading Test that students can learn to develop courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, courage, and respect for themselves and others.Top

Our Grading Tests are designed to mirror societal and life expectations where following the rules and doing one’s best are rewarded and highly regarded. Through these Tests we help students develop their ability to:
- perform under pressure;
- overcome fear and vulnerabilities;
- think clearly and decisively under duress.
In this context, our Grading Tests are not merely a vehicle to test students’ skills but a real learning opportunity that helps develop the whole person.

The Black Test by Daniel Tracey
Recently, I participated in the World Taekwondo Black Belt Grading test and was successful in achieving my 1st Dan Black Belt. Being awarded with my Black Belt allowed me to appreciate the hard work and dedication put in by all those who participate in the grading. Such a feeling of personal success was felt by all those who tested on that day, as all of our hard work had finally come to fruition.
Becoming a Black Belt really filled me with a sense of belonging within the club. I take pride in myself and in the Club each time I put on my uniform and go to training, and I know that every other Black Belt does as well. What really helped me prepare for my grading was continual practise and an increased training schedule, but with the support of Grand Master Wahid, the instructors, sessions at power breaking, and special advanced classes on Sundays, this intensified training was not a burden, but an opportunity to improve myself and my abilities.
A sense of willpower and determination is necessary for anyone seeking to apply for Black Belt, and the best advice I can offer is to communicate with your instructor. If you are unsure about anything there are many ever-helpful senior members who can help, but the main thing, is to stay focussed on the task at hand, and to have confidence in your abilities when walking into the test.
