Black Belt is about personal growth mentally and physically
17 December, 2016

My name is Joe Parisi and I started my training at World Taekwondo Salisbury Branch at the age of 57 years. Although I have been fascinated with Martial arts for most of my life, I have always been too busy with family and work commitments to actually participate in any training. I first attended the Salisbury Training Centre to accompany my son who has an intellectual disability as he was very keen to start training. This wet my appetite once again in beginning to train in Martial Arts and I decided to start training in May 2012.
As at the time I weighed in at approximately 99 Kilograms another reason I wanted to train was so that I could lose some weight and get fitter. The training not only helped me in losing weight, (a total of 15 Kilograms) it also helped me stay a lot more focused with the challenges of a hectic work life. Personally I feel fitter now than ever before, I feel more energized and able to accomplish more physical tasks whether at work or at home. I have more confidence in approaching the more challenging tasks at work especially those dealing with difficult customers. As my fitness level has improved, I can now participate in other social activities involving my young family members without tiring quickly.

The best part of the training is the interaction with others.

Socially I have found communicating and interacting with others more easily and less conscious of myself. I have found that I have more respect and patience to the needs of others.
The best part of the training is the interaction with others. We all seem to share a common goal so it is easy to relate to others in each session whether it is at the normal training centre at advanced classes or power breaking.

It is really hard to decide which part of the training I enjoy most , I really enjoy fine tuning each of the patterns as this gives me the opportunity to improve personally by growing in self-control and in confidence knowing I can achieve good results with effort.
The Black Belt to me is all about my personal growth mentally and physically. It is the reward of achievement to myself for the dedication and persistence in a sport which is only reliant to my own capabilities.
